Doing Things Differently

Avoiding being around lots of people…

Avoiding being around lots of people…

Covid-19, Day 8, Thursday 2 April 2020

I wonder what will be different? It’s been said many times over, things will be different when we get out of lock down, well there’s so much that we are doing now that is different in our daily lives, and many of these things will stay.

Zoom

It seems as though everyone is on Zoom at the moment, video conferencing.  I spent an hour listening to Jamie Farmer on grow NZ Business; an excellent way to learn and you don’t have to waste time or money travelling.  And, if you are living or staying in a place that is in a slice of Pare-dise, you won’t want to travel anywhere anyway!

A pain in the butt!

Dave has been suffering from a pain in the buttocks, (not me!), for a few weeks.  He obviously can’t go and see his physio, and of course, he doesn’t want to stop working, although he is forced to sometimes as it just gets him.  There’s been no follow up from his physio, so it was a call to my sister in law who is a fabulous physio.  From her phone, she was able to diagnose his problem after putting him through a few manoeuvres, and prescribe the appropriate action! He’s now on the mend – hasn’t stopped working I might add!  Would he have called my sister in law prior, probably not!

What to plant?

A long discussion on the phone with my daughter also led me to giving all sorts of garden advice on the new area they are wanting to plant.  With sending photos quickly through messenger, as we were talking, I was able to get a good sense of where they want to plant, and was able to quickly send through examples of plants that may do well in those spaces.  Would we have done it that way prior?  Probably not!

Outdoor spaces!

It also made me think, if more people stay at home to work in the future, they are going to want to enjoy their working space. The outside space can become more important than ever; somewhere you can relax and take a break in, even if it is only a short escape from house bound kids! Or it may be really important that you have that outside space designed really well so the kids want to spend time out there. At Warblers Retreat, every room has the outdoors beckoning in, so it’s pretty easy to feel as though you are away from everything, and there’s five acres of space so no confinement here!.  Maybe more, on the phone gardening/landscaping advice, or video conferencing will be the thing of the future.

Food Supply

It made me think, there’s probably so many ways we can achieve things by avoiding being around lots of people at one time.  Ordering food and items online; the thought of not having to go grocery shopping as being the norm, would be fantastic!  Maybe more people will grow their own food as we do; it’s fantastic to be able to pick fresh fruit and vegetables all year round and if you don’t have too much space, it’s amazing what can be squeezed in.

Covid Wrap Up

Covid-19, our highest number of new cases recorded in NZ today – 89.  Another 92 recovered.  Nobody knows where it’s going at the moment and the downturn is already becoming evident with Bauer pulling out of New Zealand, so we are losing a wide range of magazines that New Zealanders have been reading for years.  A bit sad really.

It’s been another day of stunning autumn weather.  The sun is very hot during the day, and I am having to start watering plants again as everything is very dry.

Driveway drinks are on tomorrow night as both parties were engrossed in their work activities and the time just slipped away on another beautiful evening, everyone content, in this part of Pare-dise!
