A Gift of Time

Time out, hoping to change some habits of smelling the roses, not always pruning them!

Covid-19, Day 4 , Sunday 30 March 2020

This pandemic has caused many of us to stop in our tracks, it’s an enforced break, time to slow down and time to reassess what is most important in our lives.  It has given us a special gift of time. We are very fortunate here, as we have plenty of nature around us, we are very secluded so it’s easy to isolate, the thing that we have really been needing is time!  Time out to catch up with things, and time out to rest, just a bit!

We will never get bored at Warblers Retreat!

Always Creating

For the past six years we have worked continuously on creating Warblers Retreat.  It’s more often than not, 7 days a week that we are developing the property and the business.  When we opened the Canopy in October 2019, after what had seemed to be an eternity of work, we celebrated the completion of Warblers Retreat.  Our friends and family laughed at us, saying we would never be finished!

More downtime?

People often say to us, what a beautiful place to live, and it is, however what we see when we walk around the place is, we see what needs to be done first!  So, maybe, with a bit more time on our hands to complete the last ‘major’ project on the property, it will be easier to simply maintain, and maybe have a bit more downtime? Yes? There’s one thing for sure, we will never get bored at Warblers Retreat!

Stopping to smell the roses

Dave says we should be smelling the roses instead of always pruning them!  After all we do run a retreat! We have not been very good at that, and it has been often that we have worn ourselves out by simply not stopping and resting through circumstance, or by desire to have something completed.   Both of us are tarred with the same brush, it’s full throttle, then we’re stuffed!  But we are happy!

There are some benefits of Covid-19

We have been given this great gift of time, that is allowing us to keep on doing things at a pace that is pleasurable, so there are some good things that are coming out of this isolation period.  We hope that it doesn’t last for too long, just long enough to be able to create some new habits!

Sunday Wrap Up

We got some outside work done, mucked around for a bit reading and learning, we watched the news at 1pm, as we have started doing since the pandemic began.   I think there’s probably many New Zealanders who have spent more time listening or watching the news than ever before. 63 cases for the day – another drop, great, and an increase in the number of recoveries to 50. But the bad news is, we lost a lady in her 70’s to the disease.  She did have an underlying health issue, but she is our first person to die of coronavirus.

We skipped the driveway drinks, not wanting the novelty to wear off, and because it was our first day of daylight savings where we put the clock back an hour. WEll I thought it was, but have since been advised it’s not until next week - oh to be living in our own little world!

Still, surely is Pare-dise!
